Xavi dismisses Aguero retirement reports

The newly appointed manager provided an update on the Argentine's recovery after his side's victory over Espanyol.

Barcelona defeated

Espanyol

with a 1-0 result in Xavi Hernandez's Barca managerial debut at Camp Nou. The Blaugrana played without the services of several of their key players but managed to edge out their opponents in a tense Catalan derby.

In recent days rumours around Sergio Aguero's potential retirement due to a

cardiac issue

have been intensified. Several reports claimed the striker is set to announce his retirement in the coming days, but Xavi dismissed the reports in a post-match interview.

"I do not know anything, I spoke with him the other day and what has come out is not true,"

the Spaniard said.

"We do not have this information, I do not know where it comes from.

"He is calm. I told him to come when he is well. It is a medical issue. We have to wait and find out."

Aguero's former teammate Samir Nasri had confirmed the news of the Argentine's retirement before the match.

"He just sent me a message and unfortunately it is confirmed,"

Nasri told

Canal Plus

.

"I am very sorry because besides having been the player that everyone knows, he is a very good guy, a very good person. It is not a choice, it is unfortunately forced. I know the love he has for this sport, so I really feel sorry."

Barcelona are reportedly looking to find a replacement for Aguero in the winter transfer window. The Catalans are heavily

linked

with a move for Karim Adeyemi, but their unstable financial situation might complicate the negotiations.
