Klopp explains touchline row with Arteta during 4-0 win over Arsenal

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained the argument with Mikel Arteta on the side of the pitch during his side’s 4-0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.

Both managers clashed in a heated argument after

Sadio Mane

’s aerial challenge on

Takehiro Tomiyasu

during the first half.

Arteta

wasn't happy with Sadio Mane's challenge and claimed the Senegal international had intentionally elbowed the

Arsenal

defender and should have been sent off. But

Jurgen Klopp

defended his players which got the two managers into an argument on the touchline.

Referee

Michael Oliver

ended up going over and booking both managers for their actions.

"It wasn't the plan - the situation was that Sadio [Mane] goes for a clean heading challenge, no one makes a foul and they get up and for me it's a bit too obvious that there was nothing,"

he said to

BBC Match of the Day

.

"He's just a physical player - you can't do that, it happens too often and it's not right. When they rise up from the bench it's difficult to not get up and say something."

Asked about the incident, Klopp said:

"It was about the situation that it was no foul from Sadio but the Arsenal bench went up like it was a red card. I asked what they want in that situation.

"We had to take Sadio off against Atletico [Madrid in the Champions League] because they wanted him to get a yellow card.

"The referee did really well in this situation, I deserved a yellow card. It wasn't okay and that is what I said. It just happened in the moment."
