Netherlands boss coaches the team despite his hip injury

The Netherlands coach has sustained a hip injury when cycling on Sunday but he is going to coach his side when they go against Norway in the World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Louis van Gaal

, who fell off his bicycle near the team hotel and was taken to the hospital, used a golf cart for Monday’s training before their

World Cup

qualifier clash against

Norway

in Rotterdam on Tuesday. The Dutch can secure a place in the competition should they draw the clash.

The

Netherlands

boss also couldn’t attend the pre-match press conference on Monday and had to appear via video link, being in a wheelchair.

"

Physically I'm not good, but the brain is still working. I'm in a lot of pain, that's why I was in a buggy during training,"

Van Gaal told reporters ahead of the match, which is live on

Sky Sports

.

"I can still do everything and have done all the preparation that I normally would have."

Virgil van Dijk

, who was at the press conference, admitted that what happened to the 70-year-old came as a ‘shock’ to him.

"We are happy that he can lead us and it hasn't impacted much in terms of the preparation. This morning he chaired an important meeting and still guides us. Van Gaal is still keen to make it to the World Cup."
