Bastoni pulls out of Italy squad

The Italian star was forced to return to his club due to injury.

Inter

center-back Alessandro Bastoni has left the Italian national team and will not be able to play on Monday.

Giorgio Chiellini and Ciro Immobile missed the match against Switzerland due to injuries, and Bastoni hoped to be able to play in this situation. Italian coach Roberto Mancini had called up Bastoni to the Italian national team despite an injury to Bastoni in the Milan derby, but now it is clear that his injury is more serious than expected and he will not be able to accompany his team to the next game.

Francesco Acerbi and Leonardo Bonucci were in the starting line-up for the game against Switzerland on Friday, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari has been called up to Italy to replace Bastoni in his squad.

Inter will monitor the condition of their young defender in the next few days and it remains to be seen how severe his injury has been. The 22-year-old Bastoni has made nine appearances for the Italian national team, while he has made 11 appearances for Inter in Serie A.
