De Bruyne: Biennial World Cup not a bad idea
The Belgium international believes that a biennial World Cup suggested by FIFA is “not a bad idea”.

, who is FIFA’s chief of global football development, is behind a consultation on a biennial World Cup from 2024.
The former Arsenal manager’s proposal suggests a major international tournament every June, with mandatory player rest periods.

At the start of the season, I had a meeting with FIFA and Arsene Wenger to explain to us what they wanted to do,"

told news agency Belga.
"To do something like that, federations of all countries, UEFA and FIFA have to coordinate. Everyone has to work together.
"I insisted on a second point: I told them that they had to keep a real period of rest for us, the players, at the end of the season.
"The idea isn't bad in itself, as long as everyone works together."
UEFA has shown their disagreement, with Premier League clubs also being against the plan as well as European Leagues and the European Club Association.
YouGov conducted that 55 percent of fans are behind the idea of having more frequent World Cups.
The Saudi Arabian football association gave the idea of the World Cup being played every two years, with a feasibility study permitted after they voted at FIFA Congress in May.
On December 20, there will be an online summit and Gianni Infantino, the world governing body’s president, hopes that a general agreement can be reached at the meeting.
