Leeds United offer sanctuary to Afghan girls' football squad
The English club are hoping to provide refugee visas for the members of the national team.
Leeds United, alongside the charity organization Football for Peace and the global venture firm ROKiT, have issued a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an attempt to provide refugee visas for Afghanistan's women's football team. The 32-player squad, alongside their families and coaches, are currently staying in Pakistan amid worries of Taliban persecution.
"The race is on to find them a permanent safe haven."

Taliban’s strict practice of Sharia law restricts women’s freedom across Afghanistan, preventing Afghan women from participating in many educational and sporting activities. It remains to be seen whether UK’s immigration system will comply to provide the Afghan footballers with refugee visas.
