Arsenal's White grateful to Ramsdale after major error against Burnley

A poorly executed pass was about to ruin the Gunners’ crucial victory at Turf Moor.

Arsenal

defeated

Burnley with a 1-0 result on Saturday. Martin Odegaard scored the match-winner from a free-kick in the 30th minute, with the Gunners displaying significant improvement from their disastrous start to the season.

The Gunners kept a clean sheet for the second game in a row, but a blunder from Ben White could have changed the result at Turf Moor.

Midway through the second half, the newly signed defender rushed back to his side’s box to pick up a loose ball, only to make a poor pass to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Burnley’s Matej Vydra intercepted the ball with a quick reaction but he was stopped by Ramsdale, who stuck out a leg to bring down the Burnley striker. The referee initially pointed to the penalty spot, but the decision was changed after reviewing by VAR.

In a post-match interview, White blamed the pitch for his failed pass.

"It was a tough one, my heart skipped a beat for a second,"

he told Arsenal's official

website

.

"It was really, really dry out there today and my pass back didn't get there at all. Luckily Aaron came to save me."

"We knew it was going to be a tough game before we came here. Obviously it's so hard and the two big boys that they've got up top are difficult to handle.

"I think clean sheets are really important. If you get that, you've got a good chance of winning. We've got the quality upfront so if we're keeping a clean sheet, we're always going to win a game."

Arsenal climbed their way up to 13th place on the Premier League table. The Gunners will face

Wimbledon

in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, before meeting arch-rivals Tottenham in their next league game three days later.
