Dumfries to have Inter medicals ahead of €12m transfer

Dumfries, who is going to be Achraf Hakimi’s replacement, is a perfect fit for Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation and the Serie A champions are going to pay €14.5m to seal his signature.

It’s been earlier reported

that Inter has reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven over signing Denzel Dumfries after negotiating in the last 48 hours.

Ahead of his pre-scheduled medical tests,

the right-back flew in last night at Linate Airport

, where he told reporters he was “very happy, ready and hungry” for this new challenge.

The Dutchman, capped 23 times by his country, joined the Eredivisie side in 2018 and featured in 124 matches, meeting the back of the net 16 times and contributing 20 assists.

Dumfries was the Nerazzurri’s prior replacement for Achraf Hakimi,

who joined Paris Saint-Germain

this summer for a €60 million deal plus €10m (£9m$12m) in the add-ons.

If they would have failed to land a permanent transfer for the Dutch fullback,

Inter was planning on a loan move for Arsenal’s outcast Hector Bellerin

.

Dumfries will be Inter’s first investment with the money they earned from the €115m sale of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.

The Milan-based club considers signing Roma’s Dzeko and Atalanta’s Zapata as the Belgian’s replacements.

Roma had previously promised to let the Bosnia international leave this summer practically for a fee as low as €2m if the right proposal arrived while Atalanta eyes a €40m fee for their Colombian sharpshooter.
