Arsenal to extend with Xhaka after deal with roma looks unlikely

The captain of the Swiss national team will probably play next season at the Emirates.

Arsenal

are set to extend their contract after

AS Roma

failed to make a suitable offer for Granit Xhaka.

While the transfer of Xhaka to Roma seemed certain, given the high asking price from Arsenal, the Swiss star will probably stay in London. The Gunners had demanded €20 million for the sale of Xhaka, which was much higher than the amount expected by Roma.

Xhaka, 28, has made 220 appearances for the club since joining Arsenal in 2016. He also advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 as the captain of Swiss and managed to eliminate France.

His performance at Euro 2020 had attracted the attention of Roma, but Roma's attempt for this transfer failed. If Xhaka stays at the Emirates, it is unlikely that Arsenal will buy another defensive midfielder. They previously recruited Albert Sambi Lokonga, an attacking midfielder. Now they want to determine the future of Xhaka to make it easier to decide whether or not to buy a midfielder.
