Romano tips the Spurs to finalize Romero purchase in the coming days

Tottenham have been connected with Romero, who has already been linked with Barcelona and Manchester United after his outstanding performances, particularly for Argentina during their Copa America victory.

According to

Fabrizio Romano

, rubbishing the rumors that linked Barcelona with a move for the Argentine defender,

Tottenham

are the only club leading the race for Cristian Romero as the negotiations with Atalanta to reach an agreement are still on.

The Sky Sports Journalist reported last week

that the central defender has agreed to a contract until 2026.

Atalanta are reportedly close to signing Verona and Italy U21 talented centre-back Matteo Lovato for €11m as

Romero’s

replacement.

It’s been also reported that Tottenham

are attempting to add a swap as part of the deal in order to reduce the cost. The Colombian defender,

Davinson Sanchez

, is the player they are offering to Atalanta.

The 25-year-old joined the Lilywhites from Ajax in 2017 for €42 million, and his agreement with the club extends through June 2024. He has 35 senior appearances for Colombia national team and would enjoy rejoining in Bergamo with teammates Cafeteros Luis Muriel and Duvan Zapata.

Romero's

readiness to leave

Atalanta

continues to be seen, particularly as they have just qualified for the Champions League for the third consecutive year.

However, it’s been reported that La Dea aren’t interested in a deal that involves exchange players, especially rejecting

Barcelona’s

offer that involved a player exchange. The Italian club is reportedly eying a €55m fee for their player.
