from Lyon on a free transfer this summer. The Dutchman made 178 appearances for Lyon during his four-year stay at the French club, scoring 76 goals and providing 55 assists.

Upon his arrival at Camp Nou, Depay has often been referred to by his full name, which includes his legal surname. However, the Barcelona star prefers to be called Memphis due to his family history.

Asked about his decision to drop his surname in 2012, Depay told

:

“I will never forgive him [his father].

“Do not call me Depay, call me Memphis.

“No, I don’t want to explain exactly what happened at home because I don’t want to make people feel ashamed. And that’s how it will remain because I’ve already moved on.”

Following his unveiling on Monday, Memphis is set to join up with Ronald Koeman’s squad ahead of their 2021-22 campaign.
