Rooney impressed by Ex-Manchester United starlet Morrison

The Derby County boss says the 28-year-old has immediately improved his side’s lineup.

Ravel Morrison

was once considered among England’s finest footballing talents. However, the Manchester United starlet never found his place in the Red Devils squad and finally left the club in 2012. Having spent brief spells at multiple clubs across Europe, the 28-year-old is now ready to start a new journey under

Wayne Rooney

at Pride Park.

Morrison, who is currently on trial at Derby, played for the Rams in their pre-season friendly against Manchester United on Sunday. In a post-match interview, Rooney praised Morrison for his solid performance against his former club.

"I think with Ravel, he's very misunderstood,"

the Derby boss said.

"His ability is clear for everyone to see.

"Since he's been with us, the standards in training have gone up. There are things he does on and off the ball that I can recognise immediately. That's where he's brought the levels up in training.

"He showed some nice touches on the pitch against United but we need to remember he hasn't played for a very, very long time. So it was natural that physically he was going to tire."

Having been released by the Swedish side

ADO Den Haag

in January, Morrison is set to have another chance to find his place in English football. Derby County will continue their pre-season campaign with a friendly match against

Salford City

on Saturday.
