UEFA has declined Frank Skinner’s request to perform at Wembley before the Euro 2020 final.

says that their request to perform Three Lions at Wembley before the final match between

was rejected by the tournament’s organizers because they thought it would be unfair to the Italians.

Skinner told Channel 4 show The Last Leg:

"There was a suggestion that we sang (Three Lions) on the pitch before the final on Sunday and UEFA said it was too partisan and not fair to the Italians to have that.

"In the opening game, which was Italy versus Turkey, Andrea Bocelli sang Nessun Dorma before the game."

UEFA has confirmed Skinner and Baddiel’s request for a performance at Wembley, but the reason for rejecting them was a different thing according to the statement they have released.

"UEFA can confirm that such a request was received yesterday. However, the programme for the closing ceremony has already been finalized, and no additional elements can be integrated at this stage due to the operational complexity and the very tight countdown schedule ahead of the kick-off.

"The song Three Lions - It's Coming Home is the fan song selected by the English Football Association, and will be played during the players' warm-up, as has been the case for England's previous matches (with the karaoke graphics on the giant screens)."

has preferred to talk about the song itself instead of the conversations about performing it at Wembley before the final match as they are going to perform the song at London's 229 music venue in front of 200 England fans ahead of the Euros final on Sunday.

Baddiel said:

"It's about how we mainly lose but still irrationally believe that this time, hope might triumph over experience.

"It's about yearning and magical thinking. It's about the condition of being a football fan. Admittedly people have taken (Football's Coming Home) to mean all sorts of b******s."
