Gary Neville delighted with Cavani’s new Manchester United deal

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Edinson Cavani's contract extension is massive news for Manchester United and expects the club to sign Jadon Sancho this summer.

The Red Devils were unable to sign

Jadon Sancho

from

Borussia Dortmund

last summer and then snapped up

Cavani

on a free transfer on deadline day.

Cavani has signed a new deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford for another season having had an excellent debut season in the Premier League.

The former

Paris Saint-Germain

striker has scored 15 goals in all competitions, with eight of them in his last seven appearances.

Neville was not convinced when the Red Devils signed Cavani last year but now believes his contribution has been valuable and is delighted to see him extend his stay at the club.

"It's massive news for Manchester United,"

He said on Monday Night Football

.

"I was one of the skeptics when United signed Cavani, thinking about how windows had gone in previous years where players were signed late on with an air of desperation when United hadn't signed their main targets.

"United chased Jadon Sancho last summer and ended up with Cavani in the end, someone who was touted to go to the MLS.

"But he's been absolutely sensational in every single way. Forget the goals; his attitude, commitment, and his impact on the other players has been sensational.

The former Red Devils captain now expects

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

’s side to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer.

"They have been desperate for Sancho but didn't get him last summer and were criticized for that, but they could look incredibly smart if they could get him this summer at half the price, having waited 12 months."
