Ipswich Town appoint Paul Cook as the new manager

Paul Cook has been appointed as Ipswich Town’s new boss and will have his first clash in charge as his side face Gillingham on Saturday.

Paul Cook

has signed a two-year contract with

Ipswich Town

as

Paul Lambert

’s replacement, who has parted ways with the club due to “differences of opinion” with Marcus Evans.

The 54-year-old manager will be by Ipswich’s side when they go into battle with

Accrington

on Tuesday but is not in charge of choosing the starting XI until the clash against

Gillingham

on the weekend.

"

First I want to wish Paul [Lambert] and Stuart [Taylor] all the best for the future. I know them both and it's a hard business, football,

" Cook said.

"

It's been a quick turnaround with Zoom meetings with the owner but Marcus has given me the opportunity to manage what is a great football club and that is a massive honour for me and my family.

"I'm proud to be in this position and I'll be doing everything possible to repay the faith Marcus has shown in me.

"

Winning promotion this season is the immediate target. It will be a big challenge but it's a challenge that everyone at the Club has a part to play in."

The club has pronounced Lambert’s dismissal on mutual consent on Sunday notwithstanding a 2-1 win over

Doncaster

. As he departed, Ipswich sit eighth on the League one table.
