Mike Dean and VAR make the headlines for the controversial red card

After Soucek unintentionally caught Mitrovic with his arm late in West Ham’s 0-0 draw with Fulham, Dean was instructed to review the incident and eventually decided to send the Hammers’ man off.

West Ham

will certainly appeal the red card as Slow-motion replays tend to make things look worse than in real-time. However, if

Soucek’s

appeal fails, he will miss

West Ham’s

FA Cup clash at

Manchester

United

, as well as Premier League matches against

Sheffield

United and

Tottenham

.

The 25-year-old midfielder wrote on his Twitter: "

I spoke with Aleksandar Mitrovic in and after the game and he said to me that our duel was fair, I thank him for that. Unfortunately, the referee had different opinion.

"Anyone who knows me knows i would never mean harm to another player. I am sorry for this moment in the otherwise great season. Really nice fair play moment from Aleksandar."

West Ham’s

boss,

David Moyes

, said:

"It was an accidental coming together, which to give someone a red card for is an embarrassing decision. I am embarrassed that the VAR asked him to look at it, it was a simple accident and we should just get on with the game.

"I am disappointed. The referees can easily put a stop to this by saying we are not going to react to screaming or give soft free kicks but they seem to be frightened to say no."

The Hammers’

Aaron Cresswell

told Sky Sports:

"He [Aleksandar Mitrovic] made a bit too much of it. It's frustrating to lose Tomas Soucek. He's a massive player for us. A huge loss."

On the other end,

Scott

Parker

said regarding the incident:

"It probably was a bit harsh and the game is becoming very sterile.

"I don't think it was a sending off but that's the way the game is going."

Soucek

was the sixth player that

Mike Dean

showed a red card to in 15 Premier League matches he refereed this season.
