Mesut Ozil to be dropped from Gunners’ 25-man Premier league squad

German midfielder will not be able to play for Arsenal until February as he is set to be axed from Gunners’ 25-man Premier league squad.

Former Real Madrid Star

Mesut Ozil

will not be included in

Arsenal

’s squad list for Premier League and therefore the club’s highest-paid player will not play for Gunners until February at the earliest. Premier League rules state that the club must submit their squad by Tuesday and the list must include a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players whom their age must be above 21.

Arsenal boss Arteta has 19 players to choose for his squad list but due to the Gunners’ failure at selling some players in the summer transfer window, two senior players won’t be available to play for the club in the first half of the season. Mesut Ozil and center- back

Sokratic Papastathopoulos

have been informed by the club that they won’t be in the 25-man Premier League squad. It was just a week ago that both players were dropped out of the team’s Europa League squad too. Arteta has spoken about his choices for the squad and the current situation for these 2 players.

“I wanted to tell them face to face,

“I explained the reason why and it was really difficult for me to tell them that, but this is the restriction and rules and they have to respect that decision and try to train the best possible way, help the team how they can in that moment and see what happens.

“You can see that the players we are changing, we are using, it's very difficult every week not just for Mesut but for some other players as well to make the squad. Every week we try to pick the right players.

“It's difficult for others as well that aren't involved in the Premier League and didn't play tonight either. We have a squad of 26, 27 players at the moment and we can't give playing time to all of them.”

Ozil’s last appearance for Arsenal was in the last season’s game against West Ham right before the Premier league was cancelled because of the pandemic. Being dropped out of both Premier league and Europa league squads, 32-year-old’s chances to play again for arsenal are going seriously dim as the club is already trying to find a buyer for the player before his contract expiration in 2021.
