In fact, even a lot of English players, who always tended to stay in their own country, look for developing their skills at numerous Bundesliga teams like Dortmund, Leipzig and Hoffenheim that give young players chances to play at the highest level. So we thought it would be a great idea to look at the current crop of players and see who are

the best young Bundesliga players of 2020

.

With the likes of Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and previously Kai Havertz, Bundesliga seems to be full of young talent and we as football fans just love it. So we have picked some of the players that we think are the current young stars in Bundesliga from different positions and we have tried to highlight their strengths. Obviously some of these players may not become as great as the players that were mentioned above but that’s just the nature of these kind of lists. So without further ado here are the best young Bundesliga players of 2020:

Current Young Stars in the Bundesliga

as always we have tried to exclude the young players like Sancho, Haaland and Upamecano who are already considered to be world class to focus on some of the more unknown young players. So let’s find out who are the current young stars in the Bundesliga:

Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund)

Jude Bellingham just turned 17 in June and has already appeared in more than 50 games at professional level. that just shows how immense his talent is and how young he was when he first showed that he could play with the first team. The teenager was already travelling with Birmangham City’s first team when he was 15 years old and soon he found his way to the first team.

Bellingham who comes from a footballing family, with his dad being a prominent non-league player, joined Birmangham City when he was 8 and he swiftly climbed the ladders of development system and were already making an appearance for Birmangham’s U23 when he was 15. At the start of the 2019-20 season Bellingham soon found his way to the first team and scored to become Birmangham’s youngest ever goal scorer, being 16 years and 63 days old.

Although he was first used as a winger, he slowly became a midfielder, a position he now plays and is much more comfortable in. his dribbling skills along with his incredible stamina and defensive prowess are the ingredients of a really good central midfielder who can play as either a box to box midfielder or maybe can act as a deep lying playmaker further down his career. it’s down to Borussia Dortmund to hone his skills and they seem to be well equipped to do so as they have some of the top Bundesliga wonderkids in 2020 in their team.

Bellingham, who was encouraged by the development of fellow Englishman Jadon Sancho, chose to go to Dortmund this summer in a £25 million transfer, despite interest from Manchester united. And already he has been integrated to the side in a midfield role. He has already broken the record of being Dortmund’s youngest ever goal scorer as well as being the youngest ever Englishman to start a Champions League match. Bellingham who won the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award in September is certainly one of the best young Bundesliga players of 2020 and Dortmund fans can only hope he achieves the same heights as Jadon Sancho.

Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund)

Here is a player that many football fans who watch the development of the young players are really interested in as the 15-year-old despite being so young has already made an impression in the youth system. Moukoko is certainly one of

the current young stars in Bundesliga

, one we will certainly see more of in this current season.

Youssoufa Moukoko who was born in Cameroon but has represented Germany at the youth level, plays as a striker and has shown an incredible ability to score at every level he has been played at. He has been constantly played in age groups far beyond his own by playing in U17 and U20 when he was only 13 and 15 respectively and at each level he has nearly scored two goals per match on average.

As the age restrictions rules of Bundesliga changed in 2020 it made it so that Moukoko could appear for and train with Dortmund’s first team a bit sooner so as a result he has been training with the first team since January of this year and could make his debut for the club this month after his birthday on 20th of November. But that will just be the start of the journey for Moukoko as he has a lot to prove as one of the best young Bundesliga players of 2020.

Moussa Diaby (Bayer Leverkusen)

One of the few players among top rising stars in Bundesliga 2020 who has already won a league title, Moussa Diaby is a Bayer Leverkusen player who previously played for PSG and won the Ligue 1 there in 2018-19. In fact, in a PSG team that is usually filled with great attacking players, Diaby managed to make 25 appearances and 8 direct goal contributions during the 2018-19 season but ultimately felt that to develop further he had to leave PSG and what better destination than the Bundesliga?!

Moussa Diaby has the usual traits of a good winger, able to dribble past opponents easily as he is both skillful and quick and in addition to that he is a quite good crosser of the ball which worked in favor of Leverkusen last season as they had tall players like Havertz usually waiting in the box for good crosses. Diaby who is left-footed is also capable of great shots from distance which is always a bonus for wingers. All of these abilities has made him an ideal candidate for being one of

the best young players in Bundesliga 2020

.

Last season he was one of the best Bayer Leverkusen players by scoring 5 goals and providing 5 assists and he will be hoping to better that tally this year for him to have a chance at playing in the Euros for France as he has already played in every youth level and even has captained the France U20 side last year. Diaby who is another player in Leverkusen’s development factory is another one of the best young Bundesliga players of 2020 who can hope to gain more freedom and spotlight now that Kai Havertz has gone from the team but it all depends on him.

Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig)

Christopher Nkunku is one of the most decorated players on our list because of his time at PSG, where he developed as a young player and made his way to the first team in 2015, in a Champions League fixture no less. After some impressive performances in the 2018-19 season and after he was convinced he could not get establish himself as a regular starter in PSG, he made the decision to joing RB Leipzig at the start of last season and that move has worked out pretty well for the Frenchman.

Nkunku, who has represented France at every youth level but is yet to make an appearance for the Les Bleus senior squad, is a playmaker who enjoys a bit of pace as well which can make him deadly even if he is deployed as a winger. He can also deliver deadly crosses from corners or free-kicks which has resulted in several assists for the Frenchman. He is by far one of the more experienced players among our list greatest young Bundesliga players of 2020.

With 5 goals and 13 assists in his first season in Bundesliga, Nkunku was one of the best players of the competition last season. He can only improve on what he built last season and who know he may even get the nod in the summer and be called up for the France national team. It’s obvious that he is one of

the best young Bundesliga players of 2020

but that shouldn’t be enough for Nkunku as he must take the next step to become one of the best Bundesliga players period, an opportunity that he has playing for a great team like Leipzig.

Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen)

Another Bayer Leverkusen player on our list of top Bundesliga wonderkids in 2020 is Florian Wirtz who plays as an attacking midfielder and acts as a playmaker for the German side. Although Wirtz is very young and has little experience playing at the high level of German football, he is expected to break out into the first team in the current season.

With Kai Havertz leaving Bayer Leverkusen in the summer there could be real opening for Florian Wirtz to make his way to the first team as he shares some similar attributes to Kai Havertz. Wirtz’ through passes and his incredible vision can be honed to be a deadly weapon in an attacking side like Bayer Leverkusen as the youngster has shown glimpses of his playmaking abilities in appearances he has made for Bayer Leverkusen.

Last season, Wirtz played in 10 matches and scored an 89th minute goal in a 4-2 loss against Bayern Munich making him the youngest ever goal scorer in Bundesliga’s history which is a huge accomplishment considering that the amount of young players that have played in the Bundesliga. Wirtz is another best young Bundesliga players of 2020 and one of the players that could very well blossom in this current season.

Christoph Baumgartner (1899 Hoffenheim)

Cristoph Baumgartner is an Austrian international who plays for 1899 Hoffenheim. He rose through the ranks of the academy and reserve teams of Hoffenheim and in 2019-20 he was one of their best players, as he scored 7 goals and assisted 2 in just 17 starts. With 21 years old he might be a bit older than some of the

top Bundesliga wonderkids in 2020

but his position as a midfielder requires that maturity as he is expected to do a lot on the pitch.

And he delivers on those expectation as he plays with a particular energy and grace that reminds football fans of players like Aaron Ramsey in his prime. And like Ramsey Baumgartner likes to score goals as well, with his late runs in the box and his exceptional aerial ability which has already resulted in several headed goals.

Although he has been deployed in several positions in the midfield and arguably hasn’t found his best position yet, his ball carrying capability and the creativity he has shown suggests a more attacking, free-roaming role might suit him better. For now though, Christoph Baumgartner seems to enjoy life at Hoffenheim and has become one of the best young Bundesliga players of 2020. We’ll have to see what does the future hold for him.

Paulinho (Bayer Leverkusen)

Paulo Henrique Sampaio Filho, simply known as Paulinho came to Germany with a lot of reputation as the Brazilian was highly rated but the things haven’t exactly clicked for him in Leverkusen as of yet. But there is no denying his immense ability and technical prowess as he has shown it at times at Leverkusen and that talent is the reason we have included him among

greatest young Bundesliga players of 2020

.

Paulinho has performed brilliantly for Brazil’s youth teams, particularly their Under 17 team as he helped them win the South American championship tournament as well as helping them to a third place finish in the 2017 Under 17 World Cup. He also played for Vasco de Gama in his home country Brazil before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2018.

Paulinho who made 5 direct goal contributions last season hopes to up his game a bit and earn more chances with the first team, just like his compatriot and fellow U17 Brazil player, Vinicious Jr. who is getting a lot of chances at Real Madrid. His less than 300 minutes of first team game time last season isn’t near enough for any young player to show his worth but if he gets more game time this season he will undoubtedly show why he is one of the best young Bundesliga players of 2020.

Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig)

Olmo’s career has had a kind of strange trajectory as the Spanish midfielder joined Dinamo Zagreb when he was 16 years old instead of developing further at Barcelona’s La Masia academy, a move that more and more players at La Masia are doing nowadays as the club seems unwilling to give young players chances to play. But his eventual move to RB Leipzig and his performances there has made him one of the best young players in Bundesliga 2020.

But nonetheless, Olmo’s move to Dinamo worked out pretty well for him as he honed his skills there as well as gaining a lot of experience since he made 124 appearances for that club and scored 34 goals, a great return for a midfielder. His performances earned him a move to RB Leipzig in January of 2020 and he has impressed there since.

Olmo is a complete midfielder who has a bit of everything but he is particularly great in attack. His late runs into the box when his teams push forward provide him with many goal scoring opportunities which he often takes as he has a good finishing ability. Apart from that he is a good playmaker as well with 3 assists already this season despite his only 5 appearances.

After a 6 months period of adjustment for Olmo at Leipzig, he is expected to show his full potential soon as he is farther along the development than several others in this list as he is 22 already. As one of

the best young Bundesliga players of 2020

, Olmo also eyes a place in Spain’s squad as they will be heading into the Euros this summer while he already has made his full international debut and has even scored for Spain against Malta last year. But if his performances so far have been any indication of what to come then he can be sure that he will get the nod in the summer.

Giovanni Reyna (Borussia Dortmund)

Another Dortmund player who is arguably farther along than the rest of our list of top rising stars in Bundesliga 2020 to become a world class player, as he has already shown his mettle in the few games that he has played this season. Reyna who can play as both an attacker and a midfielder was previously featured in our list of

best young forwards of 2020

and his appearances since then has earned him a place among our list of greatest young Bundesliga players of 2020.

Reyna who is a son of the Premier League veteran Claudio Reyna and US Women’s Soccer international Danielle Egan, previously played for New York City youth team but he made his way to Germany and Dortmund in 2019. After being featured in the youth academy for a couple of month he finally made his debut for the first team in the January of 2020.

Reyna who has broken a couple of records including the youngest player ever or scorer in Bundesliga and DFB Pokal has shown a keen eye for assisting goals as well as occasionally scoring from long range shots. His partnership with Erling Haaland in particular has been fruitful. In fact, Lucien Favre, Dortmund’s manager, seems keen to include both Bellingham and Reyna in his first team sheet regularly, both of whom are among best young players in Bundesliga 2020.

Barring any unfortunate injury, Giovanni will continue to improve as his talent just seems to surpass many young players but more than that his passion and the joy he shows when playing will be the driving factor behind his eventual success. But even now at 17 years of age he is an outstanding player as well as being one of the best young Bundesliga players of 2020.

Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich)

Most of you are already familiar with the Canadian wonder kid that is Alphonso Davies, as he seems to have taken the Bundesliga and even Europe by storm last season by announcing his arrival with several world class appearances, particularly in Bayern Munich’s impressive Champions League last season. Alphonso Davies who is one of

the top rising stars in Bundesliga 2020

is currently struggling with injury and that might have a negative impact on his season bu he certainly hopes to get to his best after recovering from injury.

Alphonso Davies who was born in Ghana on November 2, 2000, moved with his family to Canada and was living in not ideal situation of refugee camp into his early teens, taking care of his younger sibilings as both his parents were working double shifts to provide for the family. Perhaps that instilled in him an early sense of responsibility and reliability, one that many young players struggle to learn, which has helped him a lot on his career path.

After a couple of great seasons at Vancouver Whitecaps which even earned him an MLS All-Star appearance, Alphonso Davies decided to join Bayern Munich in the January of 2019 with a transfer fee of 13.5 million dollars. Although he was primarily a winger at Whitecaps, Davies would later be used as a full back or a wing back at Bayern because of his speed, dribbling and crossing ability. Although Davies does lack a lot of defensive capabilities that a full back should have.

His impressive individual performances last season like the one against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge or the one against Barcelona in Bayern Munich’s emphatic 8-2 win made him the topic of the conversation for many weeks and that has led to a lot of expectation from the youngster. But fortunately Alphonso Davies works well under the pressure and will be hoping to get back after his injury and show everyone why he is considered to be one of the best young Bundesliga players of 2020.
