Napoli Chief De Laurentiis confident of Spalletti stay amid contract talks
Under the guidance of Luciano Spalletti, Napoli is on the verge of winning their first Serie A title since the 1989-90 season
Aurelio De Laurentiis, the president of Napoli, expressed his belief that Luciano Spalletti will stay with the club even after his contract ends this season. Napoli has a comfortable lead of 19 points over Lazio in Serie A and is poised to win their first league title since the days of Diego Maradona.
Napoli has set a club record by earning 71 points in the first 27 games of the Serie A season. In addition to their success in the league,
Napoliwill also make their debut in the Champions League quarterfinals next month against Milan.
The club reportedly has the option to extend coach Luciano Spalletti's contract for an additional 12 months, although Spalletti has stated that he will not discuss a new deal until after the title is secured.
Speaking at an event in Naples, De Laurentiis recalled:
"To throw everyone off the track, I went for [Sergio] Conceicao and [Massimiliano] Allegri, who came to give me football lessons in my office four times.
"In the end, Luciano came to bring us back to the top three in Italy and also last year, something different could have happened.
"If the rules of football were different, perhaps we would have brought the Scudetto to Naples a few other times already. Spalletti will stay in Naples."
On April 2, Napoli will welcome Milan to their home ground for their upcoming Serie A match. The first leg of their Champions League quarter-final encounter against Milan will take place at San Siro 10 days later.
