Barcelona interested in signing Man City striker Julian Alvarez on loan

Barcelona is interested in signing Argentina striker Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.

Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claims that

Barcelona

has contacted

Manchester City

about the possibility of signing

Julian Alvarez

on a loan deal.

Erling Haaland is Manchester City’s number-one striker, and this report suggests that Alvarez may decide to leave the English club for more game time.

The 22-year-old striker, who joined Man City from River Plate for a fee of €23 million in 2022, has only made six starts in the Premier League.

Cesar Luis Merlo reports that Barcelona was interested in Alvarez when he was at River Plate and may try to sign him from Manchester City in the summer.

Man City is trying to extend Alvarez’s contract and increase his salary after he played a key part in Argentina's World Cup triumph with his three goals. Cesar Luis Merlo claims that Alvarez has refused to extend his contract and is thinking about his future due to a lack of game time.

Meanwhile, another Argentinian journalist, Veronica Brunati claims that Alvarez will extend his contract with Manchester City in the coming days.

Alvarez is currently contracted until 2027 and City wants to extend his contract by a further 12 months and increase his salary.

Barcelona reportedly is also interested in signing South American U20 championship winner Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense.
