Erik Ten Hag insists takeover talk won't distract Manchester United players

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists that the talk around a potential takeover of the club is not distracting him and his players.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's company INEOS and a Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Al Thani made offers to buy Manchester United on Friday. US hedge fund Elliott Management also reportedly has lodged a finance proposal for possible financing.

The Glazer family, who own

Manchester United

since 2005, are considering a full or partial sale or a partnership with third parties.

Ahead of the game against Leicester City, Ten Hag said the ongoing takeover talk around the club won't distract his players.

"There's movement around the club, but it's not up to me,"

Ten Hag

told Sky Sports.

"The owners of the club are taking this stuff – I have to manage the team, make sure the team is performing and we get the right results in.

"Every third day we have a game, so I don't have time to get involved in stuff like this."

He added:

"It's not distracting us. We're focusing on football. We're focusing on our games, preparing and training. That is our job to do. It doesn't distract us. So far, so good."

Manchester United will face Newcastle in the EFL cup final next Sunday. United has to face Leicester and

Barcelona

before the final, while Newcastle has a clear week.

Ten Hag said:

"It's a big advantage for us, I would say. We are used to playing big games. That will be a huge advantage for us."

The 25-year-old Marcus Rashford who has scored 21 goals this season is out of contract at the end of next season and Ten Hag said extending his contract is their priority.

"Of course it's a priority,"

Ten Hag said.

"We will work on that. Sit, wait, but in the background, we're working hard."
