Athletic 0-2 Real Madrid: Following Barcelona Point by Point
Real Madrid visited Athletic on Sunday as they were eager to get closer to Barcelona, who won Getafe 1-0 in an earlier match. Goals from Benzema and Kroos sealed the Los Blancos a 2-0 away victory.

Real Madridfell short in the title race as Barcelona moved 6 points clear at top of the table. Carlo Ancelotti's men needed a response against Athletic Club as the Blaugrana won their Sunday game against Getafe 1-0 thanks to a goal by Pedri.
Although the Los Blancos struggled under
Athletic's heavy pressure, a wonder strike from Karim Benzema opened the scoresheet for Real Madrid as he scored with a left-footed volley from Marco Asensio's header. Athletic made plenty of chances in the first half but they couldn’t find the back of Courtois' net.
Athletic pressed high and created several half-chances, but Benzema's left-footed strike was the only goal in the first half. Athletic continued to dominate the second half. However, Real Madrid controlled the game for most of the time, not allowing the Bilbao side to get any clear cuts.
Just five minutes after coming in as a substitute, Toni Kroos doubled Madrid's lead with a long-range shot securing all the three precious points away from home.
