Ten Hag proud of “huge” Man Utd spirit but also understanding of Guardiola’s frustration

Eric ten Hag hailed his players’ attitude and performance in the crucial comeback derby win.

Eric ten Hag was overjoyed with his team’s performance as

Manchester United

achieved their 9th straight win in all competition by making a comeback against Manchester City at home and winning the match 2-1.

City opened the scoring with Grealish but United answered them with goals from Martial and Fernandes. The victory moves United within two points of Manchester City while Arsenal who have a game on hand is 6 points above United.

"I'm really happy with the performance of the team,"

ten Hag told BT Sport.

"The spirit of the team is so huge, the belief is there that the game is 90 minutes, and we can fight back.

"The belief is back, and we're in a good direction. You have to work out of possession [against teams like City]. They have qualities in split-moments to score goals. We saw that today. One mistake and they scored."

United’s first goal was a controversial one as both Fernandes and

Rashford

ran to shoot the ball but Rashford who was in the offside position didn’t. Man City players and Guardiola claimed that Rashford influenced the game even though he didn’t touch it but VAR ruled the goal correct. Ten Hag was understanding of Guardiola’s position on the matter as he said:

"I can see it from the other side as well. It's a confusing moment for the back line of the opponent.

"The rules say Marcus didn't touch the ball, and he wasn’t interfering. Bruno came from the back – but I can see it from the other side."
