Wolverhampton beats Aston Villa to sign Atletico's Cunha on loan

Unable to find a starting role at Atletico Madrid ever since he joined from Hertha Berlin, Wolves beat Arsenal, Leeds, and Aston Villa to sign the Brazilian striker on loan with an obligation to buy.

With the World Cup over, the Premier League clubs are identifying their transfer targets and it seems that the

started the transfer window way better than their Premier League season as they beat Aston Villa to sign

Matheus Cunha

on loan from Atletico Madrid with an obligation to buy for €50m as

reports.

Despite joining

Atletico

for a €30m fee in 2021, the striker failed to establish himself in Diego Simeone's plans. Despite making 17 appearances for the La Liga side this season, the 23-year-old failed to score a goal.

The 23-year-old Cunha joined Atletico from Hertha Berlin in 2021. Cunha is under contract until 2026. He only scored seven goals in all competitions last season. Only eight of Cunha's 29 La Liga games last season were as a starter.

During his three-year spell at Hertha, he scored 13 goals in 40 games. Cunha has played for Brazil seven times but hasn't scored for his country.
