Gareth Southgate remains as England manager until Euro 2024
Gareth Southgate will stay on as England's manager until the end of the 2024 European Championships.
The English Football Association has announced that Gareth Southgate has decided to stay on as
England's manager through to the European Championships in 2024.
"We are delighted to confirm that Gareth Southgate is continuing as England manager, and will lead our Euro 2024 campaign,"
a statement from the FA read.
"Gareth and Steve Holland have always had our full support, and our planning for the Euros starts now."
Following England’s defeat against France in the
World Cupquarter-finals in Qatar, Southgate said he needed time to reflect on his future but reports on Saturday suggested that after talks with his family, Southgate believes he should continue his job.
Southgate was appointed as England's manager in 2016 and led them to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018. England reached the final of Euro 2020 last summer but lost against Italy on penalties. Southgate's side was knocked out of the 2022 World Cup after a 2-1 defeat against defending champions France in the quarter-finals.
The 52-year-old has won 52, drawn 15, and lost 15 of his 82 games in charge of England. Gareth Southgate has won 11 matches at major tournaments which is more than any England managers in history.
England will face Italy, Ukraine, North Macedonia, and Malta in Euro 2024 qualifying Group C, which begins with a clash against the Azzurri on March 23.
