France 2-0 Morocco: Les Bleus tame the Atlas Lions

France move past Morocco in a game that was nervy at times for Deschamps’ men.

After becoming the first ever African side to reach a World Cup semi-final, Morocco were only a step away from achieving the dream but France’s experience proved enough for them to reach their fourth World Cup final to face Argentina. Les Bleus became the first defending champion who reaches the World Cup final since Brazil in 1998.

France

came firing out of the gate with Theo Hernandez managing to score early on the 5th minute as his half volley sent France ahead. However, after France's opener, Deschamps men sat back which in turn led to Atlas Lions taking control of the match.

Morocco were able to generate a few good chances at the end of the first half, mostly from the set pieces, with one of them coming from an astonishing El Yamiq overhead-kick which grazed Lloris’ post. However, when it came to finishing off chances, Morocco were seriously lacking throughout the match.

The second half was more of the same as piled on pressure which bore no fruit but against the run of the play, France were able to score a second with substitute Muani getting the honors. Morocco then lost heart as their chances strated to fizzle out by the end of the match.

France will now face Argentina in the Lusail Stadium in the final which is in four days and on the other side

Morocco

will fight Croatia for the 3rd place at Khalifa International Stadium.
