Weghorst talks about the ‘really disappointing’ Messi incident

Netherlands hero Wout Weghorst was involved in a verbal argument with Lionel Messi which he claims was “really disappointing”.

Wout Weghorst scored a brace against Argentina to bring Netherlands back from death in a volatile match that ultimately ended in a scuffle between the two sides.

Messi

seemed particularly cross with Weghorst as he brushed him off during a post-match interview, an incident that the Dutch striker deems “really disappointing”.

Messi was seen talking to

Weghorst

and saying "

What are you looking at, fool?"

but Weghorst claims he wanted to make amends with a player who he has much respect for.

"I wanted to shake his hand after the game, I have a lot of respect for him as a soccer player,"

Weghorst said, "

but he threw my hand to the side and didn't want to talk to me."

"My Spanish isn't very good, but he said disrespectful words to me and that disappoints me, really disappointing."

The game ended with 15 cards which set a record in the World Cup. Denzel Dumfries was sent off for Netherlands after a clash between the two teams following the penalty shoot-outs.
