Athletic Club legend Aduriz announces return to football with Mallorca

After 20 years of playing, Aduriz announced his retirement in 2020 after earning 13 caps for his country. However, Mallorca has announced the Spaniard will return to playing this season as they convinced the 41-year-old striker to have a second spell at the club.

Spending most of his career with Athletic Bilbao,

Aritz Aduriz

decided to put an end to his playing career on 20 May 2020 after representing clubs like Valencia, Valladolid, and Mallorca.

However, after two years, the Basque striker decided to return to playing with his former side, Mallorca, where he played between 2008 and 2010 and scored 23 goals as

Mallorca officially

confirmed the news on their website.

Surpassing the expectations, Mallorca sits 11th in La Liga table, especially after an incredible summer window they had recruiting Vedat Muriqi, Kang-In Lee, and Pablo Maffeo. Aduriz is expected to add some experience to the high-hoping Mallorca side this season. They will next face Bologna in a friendly match on Wednesday.

Back in the 2020-21 season, which was interrupted in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Aduriz announced his retirement due to hip problems, just before the season could be resumed, and hence he was unable to play in the Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad.
