Qatar becomes the earliest host to be eliminated from the World Cup

Host nation, Qatar, makes history as they become the earliest host nation to be eliminated in the World Cup after being defeated by Senegal

Following their uninspiring World Cup debut against Ecuador where they lost 2-0, Qatar has now become the earliest host country to be eliminated from the tournament. The Qatar’s fate was sealed when they lost their second match 3-1 to Senegal with Ecuador and Netherlands drawing 1-1 later on Friday.

With their loss against Senegal,

Qatar

has now set some unwanted records as they not only became the first host nation to lose their opening match, but also the first to lose 2 matches in the group stage of the World Cup.

The 3-1 defeat against

Senegal

also marked them as only the third host nation to concede 3 goals in a single group stage match as both previous host nations had done so, with both losing to Uruguay 3-0.

Qatar is now joined by South Africa to be the only host nations who failed to qualify from the group stage as they head into the final match with Netherlands.
