Germany 1-2 Japan: Another comeback from the Asians
Germany dominated their World Cup opener in a game they started also in a gesture protesting FIFA's punishment for the OneLove armband ban while they dictate their dominance from the very starting minute.
As one of the World Cup favorites,
Germanystarted their World Cup campaign on the front foot after they demonstrate their protest against FIFA's bans on the OneLove gesture. However, the Germans almost suffered an early scare as Maeda tapped in after just eight minutes before the Japanese striker was flagged offside.
After trying to reach their balance, the Germans reached the winner as Gundogan opened up the scoresheet from the penalty spot. They almost scored a second goal in the first half in the 49th minute before VAR ruled Havertz's goal offside.
Hansi Flick's side continued to show off their team play as they nearly reach a goal in the 51st minute when they hit the crossbar. After five substitutions,
Japan'sboss Hajime Moriyasu changed the opposition of the play as they finally reached the equalizer in the 75th minute by Ritsu Doan.
Germany further pushed for a winner as they were racing against the time. Japan substitutes realized their nation’s hopes as Asano scored the winner for Japan in the 83rd minute, sealing a precious 2-1 victory over Germans for the Asian side.
Germany now should wait for the result of the second game of the group between Spain and Costa Rica later on Wednesday.
