Kroos: I prefer my Champions League titles to the World Cup

The 32-year-old

won the Champions League with

in 2013 and then since joining

in 2014 has won another four Champions League titles.

Kroos who decided to retire from international football in 2020 admitted he prefers his five Champions League titles to the World Cup he won with Germany in 2014 in an interview with Movistar+ channel.  

He said:

“I’m keeping the five Champions Leagues, because I always like consistency. Winning five in eight years is something very special.”

Kroos also talked about his departure from Bayern Munich and revealed that Pep Guardiola is the best-suited coach for him as a player.

"Pep fought until the last day for me to stay,"

he added.

"If I had to choose a perfect coach for my game then it's him. I really enjoyed that year, I learned and he improved me a lot, but then I had to decide whether to sign a contract for five years, knowing that Pep could leave before then.

"In the end the club made it easy for me because we didn't reach an agreement. What surprised Bayern Munich was the fact I did what I had been saying for four or five months. I always thought I deserved a certain salary and they saw it differently. I said from day one what I wanted, they didn't want to pay that and I left."

Kroos' current deal with Real Madrid expires in 2023 but there have been reports that he is open to extending it for another 12 months.
