Erik ten Hag is still hopeful of van de Beek finding his form

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has commented on Donny van de Beek’s form following their win over Sociedad in Europa League and has claimed that there is more to come from him

Ajax’s former captain and midfielder has had a tough time at Manchester United ever since he joined the club in 2020. The midfielder has spent much of his time at United on the bench and has been loaned out to

once, but his manager at Ajax and now at

United

, ten Hag feels like

van de Beek

has yet more to offer.

Although many believed that ten Hag would let his former pupil play a pivotal role for United at the center of the pitch, the things hasn’t been going so smoothly for van de Beek as he has yet to cement his place in Manchester United’s starting eleven.

However, injuries have also played a key role in van de Beek being left out of the squad. Last night after a rare start for van de Beek, ten Hag commented on his performance:

"He had a good preseason and then got injured, now he is back,"

Ten Hag said after the 1-0 win, contextualising his tough start to the season:

"I think it was a decent performance [against Sociedad] but he can do better. I know him very well [from Ajax].

"He delivered what I expected in terms of positioning, pressing and in the transition. I can only talk about him [at United] from my time here and I think he can do more."

A 2019 Ballon d’Or nominee, Donny van de Beek will be hoping to continue his strong performances for United in the hopes of getting first team football action again, as well as being called back by the Dutch national team.
