Ten Hag feels disappointed after failing to top Europa League group

Manchester United manager, Eric Ten Hag admits they are disappointed to finish second in their Europa League group.

Manchester United

beat Real Sociedad with one goal on Thursday in their final Europe League group game but they finished behind Sociedad and now face a play-off against one of the teams knocked out of the Champions League.

After the game, Eric Ten Hag told BT Sport:

"You do not always get what you deserve.

"Of course, we are disappointed we didn't score two goals because that's what we needed. We want always to be number one, and when we aren't, we are disappointed."

The 18-year-old,

Alejandro Garnacho,

scored the only goal of the match and became Manchester United's youngest non-English goalscorer in a major European competition,

Ten Hag praised Garnacho's performance, but also admitted they have problems in attack and need more options.

"Today, we win, and I am happy with that, and some other things like the performance of Alejandro Garnacho,"

the Dutchman added.

"We had problems there [on the wing]. Antony was out, and Jadon Sancho was not available. I really hope he can keep the process going. He was a threat. If he can keep this going, I am really happy."

Ten Hag’s side could face any of Barcelona, Juventus Ajax, Red Bull Salzburg, Sevilla, Sporting Lisbon, Bayer Leverkusen, and Shakhtar Donetsk in their Europa League play-off tie, which will take place in February.
