Ballon d’Or 2022 coming up on Monday

It has been announced that the 66th Ballon d’Or ceremony is set to happen at the Theatre du Chatelet, Paris on Monday and the proceedings start at 19:30 BST.

A number of awards are planned to be given to the greatest players in the world and the most important one is the Ballon d’Or. France Football also plan to announce the Ballon d’Or Feminin and the Kopa Trophy, which will be given to the best performing player under 21. They will also announce the Yashin Trophy winners. It is for the best goalkeepers.

Karim Benzema

is among the favorites to win the prize and Alexia Putellas is favorite for the Ballon d’Or Feminin. The award is going to be given based on performances over one season rather than a year, which is happening for the first time ever.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who got a nomination for the 19th season in a row, was in the 20th place in the 2022 vote, which was disappointing considering his standards. However, it is better than Lionel Messi, who was not mentioned in the list at all. He was just behind Harry Kane, Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Liverpool’s Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk got the 14th and 16th place, respectively.

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min is 11th, just shy of a place in the top ten. Moreover, Sebastien Haller, who is dealing with a testicular cancer at the moment, came 13th following a remarkable season with Ajax. His impressive season helped him earn a move to Borussia Dortmund.
