Xavi on Barcelona’s defeat by Real Madrid in EL Clasico

Los Blancos won the battle against the Blaugrana in their first EL Clasico of the 2022-23 season courtesy of goals from Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde and Rodrygo.

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in their El Clasico clash as Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde and Rodrygo netted goals for Los Blancos. Although

’s side tried to push back with a goal from Ferran Torres, it was not enough. Los Blancos dominated the game and had it under control for the most part despite Barcelona netting a late goal.

Xavi has been feeling the pressure for the first time as the Blaugrana manager as his side also came close to a Champions League group level elimination following their 3-3 draw with Inter. They then lost the battle against Real Madrid at the weekend.

Barcelona expected more after the signing of players like Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Marcos Alonso and Hector Bellerin in the summer.

According to reports from The Score, the Barca boss talked about the El Clasico in a press conference post-match:

“They beat us on maturity, in knowing how to compete.

“We competed worse than our opponents, that’s why we lost the game. They are a team that’s more mature than ours at this moment.”

Although Real Madrid won the game, Barcelona also showed off an impressive performance, so it cannot be argued that they deserved the win on this occasion. If Barcelona aim to compete with Real Madrid consistently, the have a lot to do to reach that point.
