Xavi admits Barca's "situation doesn't work out” after Clasico defeat

The joint-La Liga leaders faced each other on Sunday as Real Madrid took the La Liga lead from their arch-rivals after a 3-1 victory at Santiago Bernabeu. Xavi demands more "aggression" from his players after the Clasico defeat.

Real Madrid

dominated from the beginning of the game as they scored the opener by Karim Benzema after a cutback from Vinicius in the 12th minute. Federico Valverde doubled the Los Blancos' lead in the 35th minute with a stunning out-of-the-box shot, with a late penalty added by Rodrygo in their 3-1 home victory as Real Madrid stole the La Liga leadership from

Barcelona

as they are now separated by three points.

Barca boss

Xavi Hernandez

told his post-match conference:

"We're leaving empty-handed. We haven't taken advantage of our moments and Madrid have," he said.

"We weren't bad in the first half, but if we want to win this type of match, we have to change our mentality. It worries me that we haven't been at our level of play. The first goal can't happen.

"We're in a situation that doesn't work out for us and we have to change it as of Thursday. I can't be happy with losing 3-1. "We have been very good in the league but we have to improve our forcefulness and aggression.

"I don't think that the Inter game [in midweek] had an influence. Without playing a great game, we've had our moments to draw 1-1, 2-2, but when you don’t concentrate at the Bernabeu these things happen."

Barcelona finally broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute with a well-worked goal by

Ferran Torres

, assisted by Robert Lewandowski. However, Rodrygo doubled Real Madrid's lead against the game's process from the penalty spot in the 91st minute.
