Barcelona target Zubimendi extends his contract with La Real
The Spanish star decided to extend his contract with L'Real for five years.
Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi ended rumors about joining Barcelona by renewing his contract with his club.
Zubimendi was one of the best defensive midfielders in La Liga in recent seasons, who managed to reach the first team from the club's academy and played 106 games for Real Sociedad. His good performances attracted Xavi's attention and the Spanish coach, who is looking to replace Sergio Busquets, tried to sign the Spanish midfielder.
However, Barcelona's attempt for this transfer was unsuccessful, and Zubimendi became permanent in San Sebastián by extending his contract with the club until the end of the 2026-27 season.
He told club's website:
“I was born in San Sebastian and there is no better place to continue growing, the project is very ambitious. I am very happy and feel the affection of the fans". Excitement and ambition are two words that he emphasizes. "We are ambitious, that’s obvious. Fans are also enthusiastic and very committed. I am very happy”.
