Michael Carrick under Middlesbrough radar to replace Wilder

After sacking Chris Wilder, Middlesbrough are struggling to find a new manager and the former Manchester United midfielder is one of their options.

Middlesbrough have begun negotiations with Michael Carrick to appoint him as the club's new manager.

After the dismissal of Chris Wilder, Boro are monitoring several coaches, and the former Manchester United and England midfielder, who took over as interim coach after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired from the Red Devils bench, is one of the options.

They are said to have held talks with Rob Edwards, who was sacked by Watford in September and enjoyed good results with Forest Green Rovers last season. England boss Gareth Southgate, who is close to Boro chairman Steve Gibson, is said to have offered Carrick to them.

After Ralf Rangnick's arrival at Old Trafford, Michael Carrick was removed from United's management and has not managed another team since. He has worked as a football coach and player for 20 years, but for some time he did not want to work due to personal reasons.

Among the other options Boro is considering to replace Wilder is Hannes Wolf, the head coach of Germany under 18 years old, who temporarily managed Bayer Leverkusen last season and has previously coached in Hamburg, Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund.

Scott Parker, who was sacked by Bournemouth at the start of the season, as well as Sean Dyche are other options.
