Thomas Frank believes Toney should be on Southgate's World Cup list

Ivan Toney was called up to the England team for the first time last month, and Brentford manager Thomas Frank thinks the striker should go to Qatar.

Ivan Toney

should go to the World Cup with

England

, says "biased" Brentford head coach

Thomas Frank

. This is what England manager Gareth Southgate should do.

Toney has had a good start to the season for Brentford. In eight Premier League games, he has scored five goals. Since the beginning of last season, only five players have scored more goals in the competition than Toney's 17. Only one English player,

Harry Kane

, has scored more goals than Toney, with 24.

After scoring a hat trick in a 5-2 win over Leeds United on September 3, Toney was called up to the England team for the first time. He played against Italy and Germany in the Nations League last month. Even though he didn't play in either game, Frank thinks Southgate should be able to use him in Qatar.

Before Brentford's game against Toney's old team, Newcastle United, Frank told the press:

"I think for Ivan the most important thing is to perform every day at the training ground and then perform on Saturday against Newcastle, hopefully score a goal or two. Keep doing that and with his performances he needs to ask questions to Gareth Southgate."

"It is up to Gareth to take the decision over what he thinks is the best squad for the World Cup. I am sure he will take the best squad. Gareth wants to win the World Cup so he will bring the best and most competitive squad. If you ask me, I see Ivan every day and I am biassed but I think he should be there."

The day before Brentford's trip to St. James' Park, the controversial Saudi Arabia-backed takeover of Newcastle will have been a year. At the time, Steve Bruce was in charge of the Magpies and they were in the bottom three. Since then, Newcastle has won 57 points in the Premier League, and only the "big six" teams (Chelsea, Manchester United,

Manchester City

, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham) have won more games (15).

Frank thinks it would be a miracle if

Brentford

could keep up financially with Newcastle over the next few seasons.

"If we have the money we have now, they have their money and we continue doing that, if we are the same level at the same time, it will be an even bigger miracle than it is now that we are competing,"

Frank said.

"Of course we know in football money talks. It is a very important part and that is one thing but the very good news is it is not only about money."

"Newcastle want to challenge that and there is no doubt they are aiming to be top six so maybe we need to start to talk about a top seven in the future. Put that aside, us being a bottom two budget club in the league, it is remarkable what we are doing."
