England 3-3 Germany: Havertz stops England with a stunning comeback

Germany was down 3-2 to England after leading 2-0 earlier in the match, but Kai Havertz scored late to tie the score in a dramatic Nations League match at Wembley.

Germany

finished their Nations League campaign with an enthralling 3-3 draw at

Wembley Stadium

, as

Kai Havertz

's late equaliser denied England a dramatic comeback triumph.

Following a scoreless first half, Ilkay Gundogan scored from the spot before Havertz extended the lead with a magnificent 25-yard effort. The Three Lions flipped the game on its head with three goals in 12 minutes. The hosts were leveled by Luke Shaw and replacement Mason Mount before

Harry Kane

's penalty completed the comeback.

However, Germany secured a share of the spoils with three minutes remaining when Havertz tucked home from close range after Nick Pope made a goalkeeping blunder. The greatest chance of the first half came in the 24th minute, when Shaw's wonderful through-ball found Raheem Sterling, who was denied by

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

after expertly avoiding his opponent.

Seven minutes into the second half, Gundogan slotted past Nick Pope from the penalty spot after Harry Maguire clumsily felled Jamal Musiala. Havertz extended the lead 15 minutes later, capping off a swift counter by wonderfully curling a 25-yard attempt off the post.

On the other hand, England responded with two goals in five minutes. Shaw's cross cut the lead in half, before Mount surged past Ter Stegen after a jinking run from Bukayo Saka. The Three Lions took the lead when Kane converted a penalty following Nico Schlotterbeck's reckless challenge on Jude Bellingham, but Havertz had the final say when Pope fumbled

Serge Gnabry

's original effort.

England showed guts to overcome a 2-0 hole with their first goals from open play of this Nations League campaign, ending a 520-minute goalless streak, but the Three Lions have now gone six games without a win for the first time since 1993. Meanwhile, despite extending their unbeaten streak to nine away games, Germany has drawn four consecutive road games for the first time.

Kane capped the comeback with an impressive penalty, his 51st international goal, and is now just two goals away from equaling Wayne Rooney's all-time England record. On the same day, the striker became the fifth player in Three Lions history to start 50 games as captain, joining Bobby Moore (90), Billy Wright (90), Bryan Robson (64), and David Beckham (59).

Havertz scored the first of the six goals, putting the game up 2-0 with a beautiful 25-yard strike past the hapless Pope. In a lively display for the Chelsea attacker, Havertz also equalized with his third shot of the game, a count only matched by Jude Bellingham during the game. After keeping six clean sheets and conceding only twice in their first eight games under Hansi Flick, Germany has now conceded in each of their last seven games in all competitions (10 goals conceded).

Germany's World Cup preparations conclude with a friendly against Oman on November 15, followed by a match against Japan in Group E eight days later.

England

will begin their game against Iran in Group B on November 21.
