Matthijs De ligt believes Bayern are 'a level above' Juventus

While attempting to justify his transfer to Bayern Munich, Matthijs de Ligt exposed himself to the fury of Juventus fans by discussing the reasons for his decision.

feels he advanced his career by leaving

for

Bayern Munich

. When the Dutch defender signed with Juve from

Ajax

for a record €75 million, he was widely regarded as one of the sport's most promising young players.

However, after winning Serie A in his rookie season, he has since been a major letdown for the club in the two seasons thereafter. De Ligt reportedly transferred to Bayern ahead of the 2022–23 season for €77 million and viewed the move as a turning point in his career.

"Bayern Munich is closer to the philosophy of what the national coach wants on the pitch. You also have to take risks in football,"

he said to NOS.

"For me, it's a step up in terms of team. Juventus is a very good team. Only I think Bayern has everything to win the Champions League in terms of selection and ambition. I had the feeling that it was just a little less at Juve. I had a great time, really enjoyed it, but I felt like it was time for a new challenge."

De Ligt has had to wait for his chance with Bayern, as he first struggled to make the starting lineup. However, he is not worried, as he has played significant minutes in several matches.

"

I'm not worried at all. I barely played the first three games because I came in with a training deficit. That was what they had told me the first week,"

he added. "

Of the last eight games, I've played six all the way. So, I'm actually satisfied with my playing time and how the first two months have gone."
