US investment into English football a clear danger, claims Neville

Gary Neville was fueled when Todd Boehly called for the English top-flight to follow in the footsteps of the United States sports.

According to

Gary Neville

, the Premier League will be in "clear and present danger" with investment from the United States. Neville's ire was fueled by Todd Boehly's suggestion that the

Premier League

should follow American sports.

Boehly, who is

Chelsea

's chairman, talked about the future of the Premier League on Tuesday, and his suggestions were quite controversial as he called for a yearly all-star game and relegation play-offs to be introduced.

Boehly believes that an all-star match can urge the players from northern clubs to compete with the southern clubs of the Premier League. According to him, the extra revenue can be used as a fund for making the football pyramid wider.

Jurgen Klopp, the

Liverpool

boss, criticized the idea when he had an interview after his side's victory over Ajax in the Champions League, saying: "I'm not sure people want to see that".

Gary Neville

, the ex-United defender, has been calling for an independent regulator after the European Super League proposal came out in 2021.

Neville, who is a critic of United's Glazer family owners, also doubled down on Boehly's call, taking it to his Twitter account to say:

"I keep saying it, but the quicker we get the regulator in the better.

"US investment into English football is a clear and present danger to the pyramid and fabric of the game.

"They just don't get it and think differently. They also don't stop till they get what they want!"

After the Super League collapsed in 2021, soon after being proposed, there was a fan-led review of English football, and the UK Government supported the idea of having an independent regulator.

However, the English top-flight did not believe a change like that was necessary, but the league did think that there needed to be a change.
