Jules Kounde sends a clear message to Xavi

Jules Kounde warns Xavi of his preferred position to play.

Barcelona

plays

Viktoria Plzen

on Wednesday night in the Champions League.

Jules Kounde

was at the press conference with Xavi Hernandez. It was Kounde's first time in front of the press since he was introduced as a Barcelona player, and the first questions were mostly about his position.

Kounde is a central defender, but in the two games he has played, Xavi Hernandez has used him as a right-back. I feel good, but there are things I need to work on. The position doesn't bother me, but everyone knows that I play center back, and that's where I like to be. But I won't have a problem if the manager needs me there."

On the last day of the transfer window, Barcelona did sign right-back

Hector Bellerin

. Kounde was then asked if he thought that would give him more chances to play in the middle of the defense.

"I'd say that's true since he plays right back and is a solution for the manager. In the end, it's up to the manager to decide." Later in the press conference, Kounde was asked if Xavi asked him to do different things than what Julen Lopetegui had asked him to do.

"He asks me to do things differently from what I did in

Sevilla

, but I bring the same things." Every time I can split up, I do so to help the team win, play defense aggressively, and lead the team. I must speak up, especially in my job, so everyone is on the same page.

This could be the start of something hard for Xavi to handle. They have five central defenders on their roster, so keeping them all happy with their roles. It will be hard. Using Kounde as a right-back was an easy way to avoid making these choices, but it looks like the French defender will force him to do so.
