Everton’s Pickford made eight saves to submit Liverpool to a 0-0 draw

Goalkeepers were responsible for the goalless result in an exciting Merseyside derby. Jordan Pickford was named man of the match for making 8 saves during the Reds' frustration at Goodison Park.

The match started at a high tempo as both sides hit the crossbar in the first half. Tom Davies' nearly scored the opener for

Everton

while his outside-of-the-foot shot hit the crossbar, while later

Liverpool's

Nunez and

Luis Diaz

rattled the frame of the goal, with

Jordan Pickford

making an excellent save against

Darwin Nunez

’s shot, driving the ball to the crossbar.

In the second half, Liverpool took possession by bringing in

Roberto Firmino

to replace injured Fabio Carvalho. Fabinho and Firmino had chances denied by Everton's goalkeeper in the second half while

Alisson Becker

made an excellent save against Everton debutant

Neal Maupay

.

In the 69th minute, Everton’s

Conor Coady

tapped home Neal Maupay's cross-shot. The Liverpool Academy graduate went wild for celebration shortly before

VAR ruled his goal out for an offside

, keeping the result 0-0.

It could have been a worse afternoon for Everton as

Mohamed Salah

nearly scored a late winner in the stoppage time, once again denied by Jordan Pickford who saved the Egyptian's excellent finish before the ball hit the crossbar.

Everton will trip to face

Arsenal

for their next Premier League game, while Liverpool will open up their Champions League campaign against

Napoli

on Wednesday before hosting

Wolverhampton Wanderers

in Anfield.
