Simeone admits he limits Griezmann's role to dodge the purchase clause

The French star has returned to Atlético on a two-year loan deal from Barcelona, and Roji Blancos played him less than 30 minutes in their recent game to avoid triggering his buyout clause.

Antoine Griezmann

had a brilliant performance in the Rojiblancos' 1-0 victory over

Valencia

as he entered the field in the 60th minute, and scored his team's only goal in the 66th.

However, despite impressing so far,

Diego Simeone

admits he has to manage the player's game time as the

Atletico

board prefers not to trigger Griezmann's purchase clause. In Griezmann's loan deal from

Barcelona

, there's a clause that if the French man plays over 45 minutes in the majority of Atletico's games, they have to make the move permanent.

Simeone told his press conference:

"They have known me for 10 years. I am a club man and always will be.

"We must try to make them [the players] understand that entering 30 minutes well is more important than playing 60 badly.

"Everyone wants to play more minutes and that is why the coaches look for the best situations for the team."

Atletico

ended their relatively quiet summer transfer window by bringing in Nahuel Molina,

Axel Witsel

, and Sergio Reguilon. Simeone finds the Rojiblancos' inability to generate funds in recent years the main cause behind their lack of activity.

Simeone added:

"We have been on vacation since May, June is complicated, in July we settled in and August was complicated again.

"It seemed that four could go, three come in... but I think the pandemic crisis has a lot to do with it. We have not been able to sell in recent years and that creates difficulties."

Atletico will face

Real Sociedad

in their fourth La Liga game of the season on Saturday, claiming six points from the opening three.
