Riqui Puig slams Barcelona for pressuring players to leave

A switch to Major League Soccer has given Riqui Puig a new start, but he remains disappointed by how his Barcelona exit was handled.

Riqui Puig

says that

Barcelona

"hurt" him when they made him train alone before he moved to the

Los Angeles Galaxy

. He also says that the way they pressure players to leave is wrong.

The 23-year-old midfielder moved to Major League Soccer this month, which was a bit of a surprise. He was no longer needed at Camp Nou. Puig joined the Galaxy on a three-and-a-half-year deal and made his debut as a substitute in a 3-3 tie with Seattle Sounders on Friday.

Barca spent their preseason in the U.S., but the former

Spain

youth international and other players they wanted to get rid of were left at home. Puig thought he deserved more respect from people.

"It was a hard month because I'd never seen players left behind in Barcelona while the team went on tour without them," he said. "Maybe I get the club's point of view. They want to get players to leave, but there are other ways to do it.

"It was hard to train alone in Barcelona, even though four teammates were there with me. After seven years at the club, being in Barcelona hurts me a lot while all my teammates play games in Los Angeles. It's a tough situation, and sometimes you have to make choices. They made this choice, but I'm afraid I have to disagree with it."
