FA to hold talks over a new contract with Sarina Wiegman

The English FA thinks that Sarina Wiegman is the best coach in the world, so it plans to improve her contract right away.

After leading the Lionesses to victory at the

Women's Euro 2022

,

Sarina Wiegman

is set to talk about a new contract as the manager of

England

.

Wiegman, who used to coach the

Netherlands

, has been in charge of England for only 11 months, but she led the team to a big win at her first major tournament. England's women's team had never won a major title before, and their men's team had not won a major title since 1966 when they won the World Cup.

Wiegman defended the European championship she won with the Oranje, making her the first coach to do this with two different countries. After beating

Germany

2-1 in the final on Sunday at Wembley, she has won all 12 Women's Euros finals games she has played.

Wiegman is under contract for another three years. During that time, England will go to the Women's World Cup in

Australia

and New Zealand in 2023, and then they will defend their title at the Women's Euro in 2025.

But the Football Association (FA) wants to keep Wiegman as manager as long as she hasn't lost any of her 20 games. The Lionesses have won 18 of those games and scored 106 goals.

Mark Bullingham, the head of the FA, said, "She is amazing. When we were looking for a manager, she was our top choice, and she was great throughout the process. We were thrilled to get her, even though we thought this tournament might be too soon. So, we weren't sure we'd win this one, but we hoped we'd win one in the future. She did a great job sooner than we could have hoped for," they said. He also said, "She just signed with us in September, but we hope she stays with us for a long time." I think she is a very special person with a very special talent."

The FA's director of women's football, Sue Campbell, said of Wiegman, "She'll take a couple of weeks off, and when she comes back, we'll talk. She has done a great job." Campbell was quoted by ESPN as saying, "When we interviewed her, we knew we were getting the best tactical and technical coach in the world. We didn't know that we were also getting this amazing person.

"When I walked up to her on the field on Sunday, the first thing she said to me was, "What have we done?" She didn't know. There's a sense of humility and a love for the game."
