Rangers complete £5m signing of left-back on five-year deal

Ridvan Yilmaz has signed a five-year deal to play for Rangers. He used to play for Besiktas.

Rangers

and the

Turkey

international had been talking about a deal where he would join for a fee of £3.4m, which could go up to £5m with add-ons.

Several clubs in Europe wanted to sign the 21-year-old player, but he made it clear that he wanted to join

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

's team. "This club has shown that it can compete with some of the best teams in Europe, and I'm looking forward to the challenges we'll face.

"I've also heard a lot about the Rangers fans, and I can't wait to play for the first time in front of them. This club has shown that it can compete with some of the best teams in Europe, and I'm looking forward to the challenges we'll face. Ross Wilson, the sporting director of Rangers, had been looking for a replacement for

Calvin Bassey

before he moved to Ajax for £23 million. This was a club record for a player sale.

He added: "Gio and I both knew that we wanted to put money into a left-back with a lot of potential and good skills. "We now have that because we signed Ridvan Yilmaz. He is a young player with a lot of talent who is wanted all over Europe because he has done so well for Besiktas. We also know that the Turkish National Team thinks very highly of him. Ridvan is an exciting young player joining our team, and we are happy to have him."

Several clubs have also shown interest in Rangers' left-back Borna Barisic, but none have made an offer that matches what the club thinks Barisic is worth. Yilmaz has played 62 times for Besiktas in all competitions since making his club debut in 2019. He has also played six times for Turkey.

After John Souttar,

Antonio Colak

, Rabbi Matondo, Malik Tillman, Tom Lawrence, and Ben Davies, he will be Van Bronckhorst's seventh signing of the summer.
