Aston Villa reach agreement with Sevilla to sign Diego Carlos

Aston Villa has agreed to a deal with Sevilla to sign Diego Carlos.

Aston Villa

has announced

Carlos

will travel to England later on Thursday to complete a medical and finalize personal terms.

A statement on

Sevilla's

website also confirmed the news, with the Spanish club adding:

"Sevilla FC wants to thank the player for his work during all these years in Seville and wishes him the best of luck in his new professional stage."

The English press reports that Villa will pay Sevilla at around £26m for the defender.

Newcastle was close to signing Diego Carlos in January but they refused to match Sevilla asking price. Sevilla at that time valued him around £38m.

The 29 year old joined Sevilla in 2019 and since then played 136 games for them. He helped Seville to win the Europa League in 2020. Carlos also won the gold medal with Brazil at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Carlos will become Villa's second arrival of the summer. They announced on Monday that midfielder Boubacar Kamara will join them on a five-year deal as a free transfer.

Sky Sports claims that Steven Gerrard’s side is in talks to sign defender James Tarkowski from Burnley. His contract expires at the end of June.
