UEFA boss Ceferin praises Real Madrid and Benzema before CL final

Los Blancos went through a treacherous path to make their way to the final of the Champions League, vanquishing Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City on the way.

Real Madrid

beat

Paris Saint-Germain

in the Round of 16 and resisted Chelsea’s fightback in the last eight stage. However, when facing

Manchester City

in the semi-finals, the UEFA president,

Alexander Ceferin

said he believed that the La Liga side’s hope were dead.

However, Benzema’s penalty in the extra-time of the second leg clash against City changed everything. Madrid will go against Liverpool in the final of the competition on May 28 and Ceferin believed the game is going to be “insanely interesting”.

"Already in the semi-finals I doubted that Real could eliminate Manchester City,"

Ceferin said, "especially after the defeat in the first game."

City won the game 4-3 in the second leg.

"They obviously have nine lives like cats,"

Ceferin said, in an interview with Slovenian news website 24ur.com.

The UEFA boss also talked about how much experience there is in the Madrid ranks, but he questioned Carlo Ancelotti’s defence, naming it “weak”.

"But they have the miraculous Karim Benzema, for whom I have said many times that in my opinion he is one of the most underrated players in the history of football,"

Ceferin added.

"Luka Modric, the older he is, the better he is."

Benzema met the back of the net 15 times for Madrid in the CL this season, appearing in only 11 matches. Liverpool will feel threatened by the talisman as they are keen on winning their third cup of the season, after winning the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

"I wouldn't dare to predict the winner, as a rule I misjudge. It's impossible to predict,"

he said.

"This will be an insanely interesting final."

"The time will come when these things will be cleared up, but they will certainly not be on the pitch,"

Ceferin said.
